NFL Week 13: Sunday Games Picks, Predictions & Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5

 

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers, Heinz Field, 1:00 PM (Steelers +2.5, O/U: 39.5)

The Browns are riding a three game winning streak and are back in the hunt for the division. Baker Mayfield, who’s play has been questionable all year long has thrown 7 TD’s and just 1 pick during the winning streak and OBJ finally snaps the 8 game TD drought last week. Steelers are banged up at the skills positions (Conner & Smith-Schuster are questionable). Hodges Will start after getting the team going last week after a poor start against a bad Bengals team. Even without Garrett, the Browns defense is solid and especially if Conner is listed as out. Take the Browns to cover in the over, Browns 24-20.

Green Bay Packers @ New York Giants, MetLife Stadium, 1:00 PM (Giants +6.5, O/U: 43.5)

The Packers come into this game losing 2 of the last 3 (both losses on the road) and really looked bad in LA and San Fran after ripping off 7 wins in their first 8 games. The 49ers defense looked alive and held Rodgers to 104 yards despite completing 20 passes. The third down parts of those games were not great for the Packers. Given that the Packers have been fine on the road versus bad teams, they should bounce back in New York. The Giants also had troubles on third down last week (1 for 12) against a struggling Bears team, and still, narrowly lost. Barkley has been having a hard time getting out of the gates in most games this year and the struggles have just continued throughout each week. Daniel Jones had an amazing game against the Jets before the teams bye week but came out flat last week on the road, post bye week. The Positives he can build off of, are that he went consecutive starts without throwing a pick for the first time in his career and in those last 2 games, he has 6 TD’s. Take the Packers to cover in the over, Packers 31-17.

NFL Week 13: Thanksgiving Games Picks, Predictions & Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5

Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions, Ford Field, 12:30 PM, FOX (Lions +5.5, O/U: 37.5)

Mitchell Trubisky has had a extremely rough season and has dealt with much criticism of his play (or lack thereof). Last week he stepped up a bit from his own grave and threw for a score and ran for another while also posting his first 250 yard passing game for the first time in 4 weeks. He’s been the handcuff of the offense that has above average offensive talent at most positions. The generational defense that the Bears have, have kept them in nearly every game (7 of their 11 games), as 7 of their 11 game decisions (win or lose), have been within 1 score or less.

The Lions will be without Stafford for the 4th straight game and they will actually turn to 3rd stringer, David Blough, as Jeff Driskel will back him up as he’s been having hamstring issues all week. Not having Kerryon Johnson has been a big loss for this offense, losing Stafford was icing on the cake. The Lions defense can also get at the quarterback with the likes of Devon Kennard and Trey Flowers, who have 6 and 5 sacks respectfully. The rest of the defense has produced 12 sacks but have not had much success in turning over the ball through the air, with just 15 takeaways, 4 by way of interceptions.

Get your Thanksgiving naps in early, for this one, you can afford to miss. Take the Bears to cover in the under, Bears 20-13.

Buffalo Bills @ Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium, 4:30 PM, CBS (Cowboys -6.5, O/U: 47.5)

The Bills caught people by a bit of a surprise as they come into this matchup 8-3 and holding on to 2nd in the AFC East, vying for a playoff spot via a wildcard slot. Sure they’ve played and beat the Dolphins twice but signature games were at home against the Pats, losing by only 6 and beating the Titans on the road (who usually paly tough at home), losing a close one (by a field goal) in Cleveland against their tough defense, and last week at home against a surprisingly resilient Broncos team. Allen could play better but his grit gives this team juice to keep fighting. The tandem of Gore and Singletary has produced over 1,000 yards and 4 TD’s combined on the ground while Allen adds another 350+ yards and 7 additional rushing scores. Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson have combined for 11 sacks on a defense that gets after the quarterback a lot (33 team sacks). Tre’Davious White leads the team in picks with 4 but the team only has caused 13 turnovers.

The Cowboys are coming off a tough loss to the Patriots but to hold Brady to just 13 points is a small victory as it greatly frustrated him in the postgame interviews. Dak is having an exceptional year, already over 3,400 yards with 21 TD’s. Zeke has nearing the 1,000 yard mark and could cross it with a solid game today. He also adds 7 scores to the stat sheet while his impressive backup, Tony Pollard, has kept the rushing yards average high in his limited duty (4.67 yards per carry). The 2 headed monster on the outside of the offense Cooper/Gallup, have benefited from Dak’s play as they seem to be racing each other for the first guy to cross 1,000 yards receiving as Cooper has racked up 886 yards and 7 scores while Gallup has tallied 733 yards and 3 scores. Sprinkle in Cobb (581 yards, 3 scores) and you could get pretty damn close to having 3 receivers with 1,000 yards. Their defense also likes to gobble up quarterbacks with their 27.5 sacks with Robert Quinn leading the way with 9.5 on his own. The one caveat is that most of the quarterbacks they’ve faced have been pocket passers whereas Allen likes to move, frequently.

This will be a tough test for the Bills, certainly their toughest road game of the year. Pull up the TV to the table or take your dinner scraps into the den/living room, because this will be one you want to see. Take the Bills to cover in the loss, in the over, Cowboys 27-24.

New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, 8:20 PM, NBC (Falcons +7.5, O/U: 48.5)

Who Dat Nation heads a few hours East for the Thanksgiving finale. Bridgewater kept them viable in the NFC South and Brees has kept that momentum going since his return as he started with 400 yards while throwing 2 TD’s and 2 picks in the first game and a quarter into the second game but has nearly 1,200 yards, with 9 TD’s and just 2 picks since coming back. Kamara has been splitting rushing duties with Murray and they’ve compiled a nice season already, combining for over 1,000 yards and 6 TD’s on the ground. Murray has freed up Kamara to do his thing in the passing game more this season as he’s had 60 catches for 421 yards and a score there as well, as he’s seen his targets tick upwards with Brees back. Michael Thomas is essentially their only receiver worthy of a look every single play and it’s shown on the stat sheet as he’s gained 124 targets, catching 104 of them for 1,242 yards and 6 TD’s. That’s usually a seasons worth for really good receivers and we’re only through week 12. The Defense has been huge this year as well with 30 sacks, lead by Cam Jordan (9.5 of his own) and Marcus Williams who has a team leading 4 picks. The impressive wins have already been racked up against the Texans, Seahawks (in Seattle), Cowboys, Bears (in Chicago) and Panthers and tonight they look to exact revenge from the loss the Falcons gave them just 3 weeks ago.

The Falcons are just 3-8 after coming into this season with playoff aspirations. Coach Dan Quinn was on the hotseat after dropping 6 straight after a 1-1 start but they are 2-1 since the bye week. One can make a case for the tough schedule as they played the likes of the Vikings, Eagles, Texans, Rams and Seahawks outside of their conference, in which they went 1-3 in those games. The turnaround was the bye week and coming out of the Saints game with a win. Matty Ice is nearing 3,000 yards and has 18TD’s to 10 picks. He has still stayed confident through all of this year as he’s completed 67% of his passes. The lack of a running attack has lopsided this offense and has put more pressure on Ryan to do more, which could explain some of the picks. Freeman, a once stud in the backfield, has severely dropped off the last few season as this year he only has 371 yards on 107 carries and still has yet to find the endzone on the ground. Julio Jones (64 catches for 950 yards & 4 TD’s), Calvin Ridley (50 catches for 699 yards & 6 TD’s) and Austin Hooper (56 catches for 608 yards & 6 TD’s) have given Ryan plenty to be thankful for as far as targets go. The defense has been ok at times but very lacking at other times. They have a few good pass rushers in Grady Jarrett (5.5 sacks), Vic Beasley (4 sacks) & Adrian Clayborn (4 sacks) but overall as a defense, their spotty.

Take the Saints to exact revenge and serve up the final loss of the day, in the over, Saints 31-20.

NFL Week 11: Monday Night Football Pick, Prediction & Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5

Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers, Estadio Azteca – Mexico City, 8:15 PM, ESPN (Chargers +6.5, O/U: 52.5)

Patrick Mahomes showed up in his first game back from a dislocated knee cap, with a 400+ yard performance. Despite his big performance, the defense couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain and they gave up well over 200 yards of rushing, which has been a huge weak spot for the defense. Henry is good but Melvin Gordon is better. The Chiefs managed to survive those 2 weeks while Mahomes was missing and walked away with a 1-1 record, nearly beating the Packers but beating the Vikings, 2 quality opponents. The Chiefs will get back some key offensive lineman for the game so expect them to utilize the running game a bit even without McCoy being held from making the trip for some load management reason Andy Reid gave but most likely due to his fumbling issues.

Melvin Gordon paired with Austin Ekeler who has similar numbers as Gordon, will be the Chargers key offensively, to putting points on the board and keeping drives long which will in turn keep Mahomes on the sideline. The Chargers spent the week in the Rockies to get ready to play in the elevation of Mexico City, something the Belichick had done in the past to get ready for a game in Mexico’s high altitude. Rookie Justin Jackson adds a speed back change of pace as he is averaging over 7 yards per carry when he gets touches. Phillip Rivers has to overcome the 3 picks he threw last week (to move to 3rd in the league in interceptions) to get a gritty win over the Chiefs this week. Rivers however, is third in the league in passing yards and has nearly 2,300 yards spread between Allen, Williams, Ekeler and Henry (who missed 4 weeks due to injury). Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram must keep their eyes on Mahomes at all times as he’s squirrely and can run and since he’s stated that he feels like he felt in week 1, he’s not hampered by the sprained ankle or the knee.

Take the Chiefs to win but the Chargers to cover in the over, Chiefs 31-27.

NFL Week 7: Sunday Games Picks, Predictions & Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5

Arizona Cardinals @ New York Giants, MetLife Stadium, 1:00 PM (Giants -4, O/U: 50.5)

The Cardinals leaky defense gets Patrick Peterson back this week. Murray has had a solid start to the season even with a weak offensive line. 2-3-1 is a better than expected outcome given a rookie QB and rookie head coach. The Giants get their star running back, Saquon Barkley, back and just in time as the team is only 1 game out of 1st in the NFC East. Daniel Jones will be able to have a more balanced game behind him so that he can get back on track. Take the Giants to cover in the under, Giants 27-20.

Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium, 1:00 PM (Colts -1.5, O/U: 47.5)

The Texans take their top 10 offense into Indy in a battle against a division rival for the top of the AFC South. The Texans also boast the leagues best redzone offense, converting 72% of their trips into TD’s. The Colts are a middle of the road team offensively and rarely make mistakes but are not great in the redzone and also one of the league’s worst defensively in the redzone. Both teams are careful with the ball, the Colts are one of the best teams in not turning the ball over. Expect a close one. Take the Texans to cover in the win, in the over, Texans 27-24.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cincinnati Bengals, Paul Brown Stadium, 1:00 PM (Bengals +4.5, O/U: 44.5)

The Jaguars lose one of the key parts of their defense, a shutdown corner in Ramsey. Their pass defense was middle of the road with him, I can’t imagine it will get better but the rush defense holds them strong as they’ve held on to the a top 10 spot in redzone defense, allowing less than half of the trips to end up in the endzone. Minshew is holding strong, completing 64% of his throw and keeping turnovers to a minimum (TD’s and 2 picks). The Bengals bring the worst redzone offense into this matchup as their run game still hasn’t gotten off the ground. Mixon hasn’t cracked 300 yards yet and the line has allowed 22 sacks, 3rd worst in the league. Still no Green and talks of trade create doubt in the locker room about the confidence in the team, especially being 0-6. Take the Jaguars to cover in the under, Jaguars 23-17.

Los Angeles Rams @ Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, 1:00 PM (Falcons +4, O/U: 54.5)

The Rams have been on a surprising 3 game slide. During the stretch, Goof has been slumping, throwing just 3 TD’s and 4 picks. Last week he couldn’t crack 100 yards passing. The rushing game is slacking immensely as they’ve slid out of the top 5 in most offensive categories. The Rams were in the bottom half of the league in pass defense and went out to grab Jalen Ramsey to improve that. The Falcons bring to the plate, the 2nd best passing offense in the game to test the Rams newly acquired corner. The rushing game hasn’t been there for the dirty birds, in which they’ve had to rely heavily on Matty Ice. The Falcons however, bring the worst or one of the worst defenses in the league which the Rams may recover on them. Take the Falcons to cover but the Rams to win, in the over, Rams 30-27.

NFL Week 6: Thursday Night Football Pick & Prediction

New York Giants @ New England Patriots, Gillette Stadium, 8:20 PM, FOX/NFLN (Patriots -17, O/U: 41.5)

The Giants have been hanging in this season despite their absolutely horrendous defense. Their defense ranks 34rd to last in yards allowed with 2,047 yards however their offense are tops in the league with the highest percentage of drives that end in a turnover (20.4%).  That puts tired defenses back on the field to get torched.  Their defense still has output (5 picks, 6 fumbles recovered and 13 sacks) but when you’re on the field all the time, you’re bound to make plays but give up a ton of yards.  The Giants are also down to their 3rd string running back (Jon Hillman) with Saquon Barkley being out with a severe ankle sprain and Wayne Gallman has a concussion and is ruled out.  Daniel Jones is completing 64% of his passes but only averaging 248 yards in his 3 starts.  Barkley surely has made defenses solely focus on Jones as his yards have steadily declined with each game he’s started, 336 yards against the Buccs with Barkley, 225 against the Redskins & 182 yards against the Vikings, both games without Barkley.  Expect more of the same as he’s thrown his 3 picks in games without Barkley.

The Patriots absolutely destroy teams with bad defenses and they don’t ever let up against division rivals or teams that they have a grudge against. If you think the Pats forgot about the 2 super bowls that Eli stole from them, you’re sadly mistaken.  Eli has always played them tough and this will be the first meeting since before 2007 where the Giants will face the Patriots without Eli.  The Pats against Eli were 2-3 with the average game being decided by a mere 3 points!  The Patriots are the leagues top defense, which is rare for them at this point of the season and have only allowed 34 points in 5 weeks which is nearly half of the 49ers who are 2nd.  They’ve allowed the 2nd least amount of yards but tops in average yards allowed per play and are tied with the Steelers for the most turnovers created with 11 picks, 1 fumble recovered and an amazing 24 sacks (leading the NFL).  Brady hasn’t needed to be relied upon as much as the Pats usually do early in the season.  He still has top 10 stats in most categories and protecting the ball as he does with 10 TD’s against 2 picks.  Now, granted, they’ve probably had the softest schedule of any NFL team, outside of playing the Steelers and Bills, they’ve played 3 of the leagues worst and you might as well add the Giants to that since they are bottom half of the league in most categories.  Lastly, Brady passed Brett Favre on the all-time yards list last week, it’s Favre’s 50th birthday today and tonight Brady only needs 18 more yards to pass Peyton Manning for 2nd all-time (how ironic).

NFL Week 5: Sunday Games Picks, Predictions & Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5

Arizona Cardinals @ Cincinnati Bengals, Paul Brown Stadium, 1:00 PM (Bengals -3, O/U: 46.5)

The Cardinals have looked choppy at times through games, mostly in the first half but have seemingly come out in the second half and putting things together on offense. The Bengals are going to be without Green and Ross on the outside and thus basically have no weapons. Both teams have bad offensive lines but Murray has the ability to move out of the pocket and still has Kirk and Fitzgerald to throw to. Take the Cardinals to cover and win outright, in the under, Cardinals 24-17.

Atlanta Falcons @ Houston Texans, NRG Stadium, 1:00 PM (Texans -4, O/U: 49.5)

No one can explain why the Falcons aren’t performing well with the personnel they have. Quinn seems to be on the hotseat given the weak start by the club. Their redzone figures are horrendous and their running game is non-existent which is why Ryan has thrown for over 300 yards in all 4 games. The Falcons have also committed the most penalties in the league. The Texans are coming off a bad loss to a backup quarterback at home. The Texans couldn’t move the ball and Watson was sacked 6 times which brings the season total to 18 times sacked in 4 games. Watson has taken care of the ball while completing 65% of his passes with 6 TD’s and 1 pick. The defense has been pretty good, ranking 10th in least points allowed while also forcing 8 fumbles, recovering 8 fumbles and snagging 13 sacks. Take the Texans to cover in the win and in the over, 28-23.

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers, Heinz Field, 1:00 PM (Steelers +3, O/U: 43.5)

The Ravens are coming off of 2 losses where Jackson has looked more human. He’s thrown for 596 yards for 7 TD’s and zero picks against the Dolphins and Cardinals but in the last 2 games against the Chiefs and Browns (better defenses) he’s thrown for 517 yards, 3 TD’s and 2 picks. They are still scoring (top ranked offense) but are allowing big time yardage on defense (bottom 3rd in the league on defese). The Steelers have been bottom 3rd in the league on offense as it’s evident that missing Ben, Bell and Brown have significantly hurt. Conner woke up a bit against the Bengals however it didn’t blow anyone away. The defense has kept the Steelers in 2 of 3 of their losses even though they’ve even been middle of the road compared to the rest of the league. Take the Ravens to cover in the over, Ravens 28-17.

Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans, Nissan Stadium, 1:00 PM (Titans -3.5, O/U: 39.5)

The Bills Defense has really stepped up this season. They’re 5th in the league in least points allowed and 2nd in yards allowed. They’re passing has been middle of the road but the rushing duo of Gore and Singletary has been top 5 in most rushing categories. Allen has been shacky to start the season, with only having 3 TD’s against 6 picks. The Titans are an up and down team offensively, very inconsistent. The one consistent that has been very evident is that Mariota has thrown for 7 TD’s and zero picks. The offense has been pretty efficient, ranking 25 in yards but 13 in points scored. The defense is also ranked in the top half of the league. The one thing the Bills can do is make offenses make mistakes or stall their drives. Take the Bills to win outright and cover in the under, Bills 21-17.

Take the Bears to win but the Raiders cover in the under, Bears 20-17.

Week 3: Monday Night Football

Chicago Bears @ Washington Redskins, FedEx Field, 8:15 PM, ESPN (Redskins +5.5, O/U: 41.5)

The Bears should scare you.  Their defense surely should scare you because they’re pretty good but this offense should scare you as in anemic, hard to watch, lacking.  Trubisky has yet to throw a touchdown but has a pick.  He’s only accumulated 348 passing yards and averaging only 4.8 yards per attempt while only completing just 58% of his passes.  That means he’s relegated to dink and dunk passes and still can’t get the offense going.  The rushing game hasn’t been there either with only amassing 118 yards on 36 carries for 3.2 yards per rush between 3 backs.  The Redskins have an 0-2 record but given the 2 divisional juggernauts (Eagles week 1, Cowboys week 2), and how they weren’t necessarily blown out of either game, things aren’t looking too bad after losing Alex Smith late last year.  Keenum’s numbers look like his 1 really good year with the Vikings, completing 69% of his passes for 601 yards, 5 TD’s and no picks.  Terry McLaurin has been the early favorite target as he has 10 catches fro 187 yards and 2 TD’s.  The rushing game has yet to come through as Guice is back to being injured after week 1 and AP couldn’t get going last week either after being marked as a healthy scratch week 1.  Given the Redskins defense ranking 30th in points and yards allowed, this one might get ugly but the Bears might be on the losing side of this one when the clock hits 0 because of their inept offense.  Take the Redskins to cover in the under, Redskins 24-17.
